Products & Services

Rubber Refectory converts end-of-life tyres into engineered rubber bricks and specialised barrier systems for security, flood protection, sound insulation, and road safety. These solutions are designed to be durable, fire-retardant, and environmentally responsible, while contributing to South Africa's circular economy.

Rubber Bricks – Core Building Block

At the heart of Rubber Refectory's product range is a heavy-duty rubber brick manufactured from processed waste tyres, bound with a polyurethane-based adhesive system for strength and durability.

  • Dimensions: 300mm × 500mm × 250mm
  • Weight: Approximately 50kg per brick
  • Fire-retardant: Rubber and binder system designed to resist ignition and limit flame spread
  • Structural performance: High density and energy absorption characteristics support a range of security, flood, and insulation applications

Primary Product Lines

SmartEnforcer – Security Barriers

Perimeter & Critical Infrastructure Protection

SmartEnforcer is a modular rubber brick barrier system designed to protect high-value sites, perimeters, and critical infrastructure with a robust, impact-resistant wall.

  • Typical installation height of around 2.2 metres.
  • Anti-climb characteristics due to mass, surface texture, and modular design.
  • Fire-retardant properties reduce the risk of arson or fire-based attacks.
  • High impact resistance and energy absorption help dissipate collision forces.
  • Suitable for facilities such as substations, depots, logistics hubs, and community infrastructure.

StormEnforcer – Flood Defence Barriers

Rapid Deployment Flood Protection

StormEnforcer repurposes rubber bricks into fast-deployable flood defence walls that can be installed ahead of severe weather events and removed or reconfigured as conditions change.

  • Engineered to work with waterproof silicone sealing systems.
  • Rapid deployment using preconfigured modules and simple installation techniques.
  • Reusable barrier units that can be redeployed season after season.
  • Designed for flood-prone communities, municipal infrastructure, and industrial sites.
  • Supports climate adaptation strategies and disaster risk reduction efforts.

Sound Insulation Solutions

Noise Barriers for Transport & Industry

Rubber Refectory's bricks and panels can be configured as acoustic barriers to reduce noise from roads, railways, industrial facilities, and airports.

  • Dense rubber structure helps absorb and deflect sound.
  • Custom wall geometries and finishes can be tailored to specific sites.
  • Ideal for highways, logistics corridors, industrial estates, and airport perimeters.
  • Supports healthier living environments in nearby communities.

Roadside Crash Barriers

Energy-Absorbing Safety Systems

Rubber-based roadside crash barriers are designed to absorb impact energy, reduce damage to vehicles and infrastructure, and improve overall road safety.

  • Energy absorption helps reduce peak forces experienced during collisions.
  • Potential reduction in maintenance costs compared to conventional barriers.
  • Supports safer road networks and can be integrated with existing infrastructure.

Secondary Products

Recovered Steel Wire

Tyres contain significant quantities of high-strength steel wire. During processing, this wire is separated and cleaned for sale to steel recyclers.

  • Recovered steel becomes a valuable input back into steel manufacturing.
  • Supports circular use of materials and reduces demand for virgin ore.

Textile Fibre

Fine textile fibre removed from tyres can be repurposed for use in insulation and other industrial applications.

  • Fibre material can be blended into insulation and composite products.
  • Creates an additional revenue stream while minimising waste sent to landfill.

Services

Rubber Refectory supports clients across the full lifecycle of each installation, from initial site assessment to long-term performance.
